چکیده
This study aimed to reduce the holistic environmental impacts of insulation materials proposed for accommodation a marine cargo ship, and suggest optimal option cleaner ship production, using life cycle assessment. With commercial bulk carrier as case three major insulations were assessed, which wool-based material (mineral wool or glass wool), expanded polystyrene, polyurethane foam. The analysis was scoped based on ‘from cradle grave’, while focusing following five representative indicators: global warming potential100years, acidification potential, eutrophication ozone depletion human toxicity potential. assessment performed in platform GaBi software. results showed that foam would have greatest impacts, especially regard warming, eutrophication, toxicity. On other hand, polystyrene better performance than For example, found, terms GWP HTP, produce 2.1 × 104 kg CO2-eq 760.1 DCB-eq, respectively, had similar with respect GWP, AP, EP CO2-eq, 23.3 SO2-eq, 2.7 Phosphate-eq, respectively. In fact, research findings point out shortcomings current design practices selecting vessels, providing meaningful insights into importance selection appropriate vessels shipping. Therefore, it is believed this paper will make sound contribution enhancing future practice regulatory frameworks response issues industry.
